Daycare & Respite Open Discussion

  • It has come to our attention that many homes that receive daycare are unable to do respite because the respite child may not have daycare approved. KVC is going to be looking into this to try to get this approved.

    • FPAB talked about utilizing KidsPark, however KVC was also cautious in allowing the payment to KidsPark because it’s typically reserved for kids that are sleeping in the office. FPAB members will follow-up with KVC to see if we can improve this process and maybe assist respite homes. Update will be provided at the next meeting.

  • Discussion about being able to get daycare for large sibling groups (3 or more) even if the family doesn’t traditionally qualify for daycare under the KVC daycare policy.

    • This would need to be done as an exception, the same way that sometimes an exception can be made for kids that are extremely high-needs.

  • Discussion about respite and how to improve finding respite for foster families

    • FPAB ask KVC to get a list of kids that need respite for the upcoming holidays so we could share it on the FB page.

    • FPAB also ask KVC if we could speak with admissions to get ideas on how to assist them in finding homes that can do respite.

  • Discussion around people not getting calls from admissions and others getting too many calls from admissions.

    • KVC stated that you are able to let your FSC know or call admissions yourself to have the note in your file updated in the database admissions uses to locate homes.

    • If you’re able to do respite please let admissions know, especially around the holidays.

FPAB Training Hour Update

  • Topic: KFAPA (http://www.kfapa.org/)

    • Speaker: Teresa Sowell, Executive Director

    • Speaker: Johnathan Stahl, President

  • Talked about what KFAPA is and what they do as an organization. General discussion about how they work with all licensing agencies and DCF. FPAB brought up the idea of a CRISIS team to see if KFAPA could assist with such a program or at least bring the need to the attention of DCF.
