Supplies & Resources Tips for Children In Care

Tip #1: Utilize Insurance

Insurance can be used to for things like pull-ups (for kids over 5 or 6 with incontinence issues) and PediaSure for kids that need a little help climbing the growth chart or have other medical needs. Maybe your baby needs extra formula or a special type of formula. Your kid needs over the counter medications on a regular basis. Always ask your Doctor if they can write a prescription for the items, many times these scripts can be filled through mail-order or medical supply companies such as Children's Mercy Home Health and delivered to your door at no cost to you.

Tip #2: School Enrollment, Supplies, & Fees

School aged children can often obtain school supplies directly from their schools, from KVC, or through organizations such as CASA. It's always a great idea to ask your child's case worker or your FSC (Family Service Coordinator) if they have any connections with obtaining school supplies. KVC also holds a school supply drive once a year around school time to help fill this need. Other foster parents or families that cannot foster but like to help out in the community also can help fill this need. Please do not be afraid to ask around to find the supplies, they are out there.

School Registration Fees SHOULD be waived for foster children, not all schools follow this policy.

ALL Foster Children qualify for the free & reduced breakfast/lunch programs.

ALL Foster Children qualify for Head Start.

Tip #3: Use WIC for kids under 5

Need assistance with formula, baby food, or other foods for children under 5? ALL foster children qualify for WIC.
